Echeconnee ATVMX National Race Report
Hetrick Makes it Three in a Row
LIZELLA, Ga. (April 2, 2025) – This past weekend the 2025 ATV Motocross National Championship Series (ATVMX), an AMA National Championship, held its third round of AMA Pro ATV racing, and its first amateur round of racing at Echeconnee MX in Lizella, Georgia. The weekend would have a mixture of weather as sunshine and warmth filled the air Saturday, with rain showers moving in for Sunday’s racing.
On Saturday in the third round of AMA Pro ATV racing, the moto one SSi Decals Holeshot Award would go to Decker Training Facility/K5 Motorsports/Walsh Race Craft’s Zack Decker. From there Decker would lead the way for a couple of laps before Westland Motorsports/JH Racing/Goldspeed Tires/PEP/Musick Racing’s Brandon Hoag made the pass for the lead with Phoenix Racing Yamaha’s Joel Hetrick hot on his heels.
Hetrick would make the pass around Hoag and never look back as he continued to lead the next six laps of the race when the checkered flag would fly. In the second moto of the day, Hetrick would grab the early lead and continue his dominance by leading each lap of that moto. Hetrick would earn his third-straight overall win of the season extending his points lead in the points standings.
Ford Brothers Racing/FXR/SSi Decals/CST Tires’ Bryce Ford would also work his way up and finish second in the first moto, while Hoag finished third in the moto. Ford would once again find himself having to move through the pack during the second moto as he climbed from fifth to second in moto two, taking second overall on the day.
Hoag, who finished third in the first moto, would get off to a bad start in the second moto as he came over the finish line 11th on lap one. Hoag would continue to push himself but would ultimately only be able to make his way up to seventh in that moto, but that was enough for him to round out the top three overall finishers on the day.
TDR Motorsports/Walsh Race Craft/CST/Rocket Machine Design’s Mason Jackson would go 6-4 on the day to finish fourth overall, earning his best overall finish thus far in the season. Rastrelli Racing/FXR Moto/Rocket Machine Design’s Jeffrey Rastrelli would finish fifth overall on the day after earning fifth in moto one and a sixth in the second moto of the day.
Battling throughout the day to take sixth overall was ML2 Motorsports/Walsh Race Craft/Maxxis/Yamaha’s Max Lindquist. With a moto score of 8-5, Lindquist found himself pushing towards the front in both motos. For Wienen Motorsports/Maxxis/SSi Decals/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Chad Wienen, he would finish the day seventh overall after earning 4-10 moto finishes.
Wienen would have a good run in moto one but unfortunately would hit a kicker in moto two while battling for third. That would cause his right foot to get stuck between his heel guard nets and frames. He would have to make a stop in the mechanics area to cut his net and free his foot to finish out the moto setting him back to tenth in the second moto.
GennUSA Racing/SSi Decals/Kenda/Action Off-Road’s Nicholas Gennusa would finish his day eighth overall after going 7-8 at round three. JH Racing/PEP Performance/Shiffer Powersports’ Westley Wolfe would go 16-3, for a ninth overall finishing position in Georgia. Wolfe would suffer a mechanical issue in moto one but would rebound in moto two as he pushed himself at the front of the pack for the duration of the race and finished third.
Rounding out the top 10 overall finishers of the day was Williams Performance/SSi Decals/FXR’s Joseph Chambers as he finished 11th in moto one and ninth in the second moto of the day.
On Sunday, the Pro-Am class would take on the track and rainy conditions, but it would be Joey Norris earning both moto wins and taking the overall win at their first round of racing. Damien Hubert would go 4-2 to earn second overall, while Heath Hannah had a consistent day going 3-3, for third overall.
Saturday saw WMX and Pro Sport battle through both of their motos, with Emma Wray going 1-1 in WMX to take the overall win, while Shelby Cobrando went 2-2 and Olivia Joiner went 3-3 to round out the top three WMX finishers of the day. Then in the Pro Sport class it was Cale Deal earning the moto one win and finishing third in the second moto to take the overall win. Noah Arnal would finish 6-1, and with that second moto win he would take second overall on the day. Damien Hubert rounded out the top three Pro Sport finishers with 5-2 moto finishes.
Other winners throughout the weekend at Echeconnee MX included Vincent Dillon in the 450 and College (16-24) classes, Carter Buff in the Production A class, Brett Musick in the Junior 25+ class, Michael Perkins in the Vet 30+ A class, and Chase Cunningham in the Senior 40+ A class. Olivia Joiner would take the Women (15+) class win, while Syler Padusnak took three overall wins in the Youth All-Star (14-17), 250 Mod (13-15) class and Schoolboy Sr. (13-17) class. Ethan Cornell would also earn multiple overall wins throughout the weekend in the Super Mini (12-15) , 90 Shifter (8-13), 90 Open (8-13) and Schoolboy Jr. (12-15) classes. The Schoolgirl (13-17) overall win went to Lillian Plaza, while the 90 Automatic (8-13) win was earned by Wyatt Waller.
